End-of-Life Care Practitioner Program

2011 APPLICATION PROCESS

Application Steps:

Note: We are now accepting Applications for the 2011 End-of Life Care Practitioner Program. The next training is scheduled to begin in January 2011.

We will accept candidates as we review applications and conduct interviews. WE STRONGLY URGE YOU TO SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION EARLY. THE PROGRAM WILL FILL QUICKLY. The final list of accepted candidates will be announced by November 1, 2010.

  1. Online Application: We prefer that you use our online form to complete your application. This enables us more easily process applications and get you a faster response. The application is extensive and will require focused effort and time. Please complete the application answering all questions in a comprehensive including essays questions way. Continue to application page.
  2. Download Application (PENDING): We also provide a downloadable application formatted as a PDF document. You complete the application on your computer by typing your responses in the appropriate sections. When finished attach the completed document and a current digital photo to an email. Email the completed application and photo to: info@mettainstitute.org
  3. You will receive an e-mail confirmation once your application is received.
  4. Faculty members will review your application and your proposed plan for use of the training in your local community.
  5. Dependent on the merits of your application, you may be selected for a face-to-face or telephone interview and asked to submit written references.

What will strengthen my chance of acceptance into the program?

  • An early application with well considered and clear responses.
  • Substantial direct experience in end-of-life care.
  • A clear commitment to a personal spiritual practice or path that is integrated with your End-of-Life work.
  • The merits of your proposed plan for use of the training in your local community (clarity and specificity regarding impact on end-of-life care and evidence of support for the feasibility and implementation of plan).
  • Demonstrated support for your participation in the course (letters of support or financial commitments) from your employer or local community organizations.
  • Demonstrated experience in basic counseling or coaching skills and a capacity for deep listening and clear communication.
  • Experience in using yourself in the altruistic service of others.
  • A mature relationship to your inner life.
  • An on-going mentoring relationship in your local community (ie. therapist, spiritual director or meditation teacher, coach, other professional)
  • A clear commitment to trans-traditional approaches to dying and the spiritual dimensions.
  • A capacity to think "outside the box," to embrace paradox, and inspire others.
