OPENING TO LIFE
MEDITATION RETREAT

with Frank Ostaseski

In any form of service we must begin by caring for ourselves in a mindful and loving way. In fact, our ability to live in this fresh moment is actually the measure of our capacity to be of any real service. In this retreat we will take time to "catch our breath." We will focus on compassionate renewal, simplicity, self-acceptance, and the releasing of the habit of self-judgment. Together with a group of like-minded souls we will cultivate a sense of balance, openness and joy in life.

Our days will be spent in silent Insight Meditation (Vipassana in the Buddhist tradition) a simple technique that has been practiced for over 2,500 years. Beginning with the focusing of attention on the breath, the practice concentrates and calms the mind and body. It allows us to see through the mind's conditioning and free ourselves of habitual behaviors thereby allowing us to live more fully present in this moment. Frank's presentation of this practice is non-sectarian.

Periods of silent sitting and walking meditation will be enhanced by mindful movement to help us connect body, mind and heart. Daily talks and experiential exercises will be included to aim our attention at the issues related to service forgiveness and loving-kindness. Evenings will include focused group discussions. All participants will have the opportunity to meet with the teacher in small interview groups. No prior meditation experience is required.
